Birkirkara FC finished their league campaign for season 2018-2019 with a disappointing defeat with a 3-2 score against Senglea Athletic FC.

With Birkirkara's ambitions to secure a top-four finish faded out last week in their defeat against Qormi FC, Coach John Buttigieg handed the debut to Gianluca Bugeja while Paul Mbong was given the nod for his first starting-eleven appearance.

The Stripes surged ahead after nineteen minutes. Michael Mifsud made a fine run on the right wing before his cross found Jorge Pereira who hit home with a fine first-time effort past goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia.

Senglea Athletic made the score level two minutes inside the second half. Mbong was adjudicated to hand the ball inside the box and referee Stefan Pace ordered the penalty. From the spot, Diego Venancio made no mistake.

Senglea Athletic turn the score in their favour fifteen minutes from time when Venancio's cross caused a goalmouth scramble and Nicolas Garcia headed onto goal from close-range.

Senglea Athletic made sure of the victory and their place in the BOV Premier League with the third goal five minutes from time. They were awarded another penalty and Leighton Grech converted.

One minute from time, the Stripes pulled one back by Michael Mifsud, but the goal arrived too late as Senglea Athletic held strong for the victory.

Diego Venancio of Senglea Athletic FC was voted the BOV Player of the Match.
