Defending champions Birkirkara FC returned to winning ways and on top of the table of the BOV Women's League after they produced an empathic performance to defeat Swieqi United FC with a comfortable 4-1 score.

Coach Melania Bajada gave the nod to British player Esther Anu for her first start with our club, following making the debut last week. The rapid-winger produced a dazzling performance and provided the assist for the fourth goal.

The Stripes surged ahead on the twenty-second minute. Tracy Teuma's in-swinging corner kick found Stephania Farrugia who hit a bullet header that gave goalkeeper Vesna Vitanova no chance.

Birkirkara doubled their lead three minutes later. Esther Anu served Loza Abera who had her shot from distance blocked by goalkeeper Vitanova and from the rebound, Tracy Teuma made no mistake from close-range.

Swieqi United pulled one back on the thirty-seventh minute. A free-kick from the right was not cleared by the Birkirkara defence and Chantelle Grech was first on the ball to hit past goalkeeper Janice Xuereb.

Coach Melania Bajada's half-time team-talk inspired her team for a powerful start as they regained the lead three minutes in the second half. Raina Giusti profited from a short clearance and hit a curling strike from outside the box that hit the foot of the post and went in.

The Stripes sealed the issue with the fourth goal on the sixty-eighth minute. Esther Anu produced a swift run on the left flank before her cross was blocked by the goalkeeper and prolific forward Loza Abera headed home in an empty net.

Late in the match, Abera, the Ethiopian forward, had the ball the back of the net again but her goal was disallowed for a controversial offside position.
