Shola Haruna Shodiya is Nigerian, and he joined Birkirkara FC in the 2011 Summer Transfer Market.

Season 2011-2012

Shola was brought to Malta by Mqabba FC but his talent caught the eye of Qormi. He went on trial with the ‘Yellow-Blacks' where he played 6 matches and scored 10 goals in pre-season tournaments and friendly matches.

Despite showing fine performances and impressing the Qormi clan, the two parties failed to reach an agreement and it was Floriana's turn to try to negotiate with this strong and fast player.

Finally, after Shola was on trial with Floriana, it was Birkirkara to end all speculations about the future of this player. Shola joined Birkirkara FC as an amateur player on Saturday, 20 August 2011.

Shola's debut had to wait for a number of weeks, till the Club regularised his registration with the MFA. His debut came in the fifth game of the league on Saturday, 24 September against Sliema Wanderers where Birkirkara were beaten with a solitary goal ten minutes into the second half. Despite losing this game, Shola was definitely the best player in the pitch for Birkirkara.

Without any doubt, despite going through some inconsistency phases, Shola was definitely an important player to the squad in his first 2011-2012 season thanks to his fast powerful runs on the flank.

In the Premier League, he made 22 appearances in which he began 17 matches while he was included as a substitute in 5. He managed to score six goals while he was voted as the man of the match three times.

Season 2012-2013

Shodiya's 2012-2013 season was an excellent one, as once again his runs on the wings were a continuous torment for the opponents' defence, which established Shodiya as one of the most effective forwards in the Premier League which led to the Stripes winning their fourth Championship title.

Shola made 25 appearances in the Premier League, eighteen in the starting eleven while he was included as a substitute in seven matches. In the same competition, Shodiya scored nine goals while he was voted as the man-of-the-match three times.

Season 2013-2014

The 2013-2014 season might have saw Shodiya lacking from consistency but still didn’t deny the Nigerian forward from another fine season. In the BOV Premier League, he made thirty-one appearances, starting all from the beginning. He was the team’s second best scorer with fourteen goals while he was voted the BOV Player of the Match six times.

Shola Shodiya was voted as the best forward along with his team-mate Jhonnattann Benites for the 2013-2014 season during the MFPA Awards.

Season 2014-2015

Following a doubtful future over Shodiya’s future with the Club, he agreed new terms on Friday, 10 October 2014.

In the BOV Premier League, he made twenty-one appearances, in which he started seventeen matches while he was included as a substitute four matches. He scored seven goals while he was voted the BOV Player of the Match once.

Season 2015-2016

Shodiya was suffering a long-term injury and he failed to make a single appearance in the 2015-2016 season. He was released by the Club on Saturday, 9 January 2016.

Shola joined our Club in the 2011 Summer Transfer Market and during his four and a half year spell with our Club he won once the BOV Premier League title, once the FA Trophy and twice the BOV Super Cup. He made 118 appearances and scored 42 goals while he was voted the BOV Player of the Month in February 2013.
