Alejandro Mendoza, known as Moreno, hails from Spain, and he was born on 17 May 1986. He joined Birkirkara FC in the 2012 Summer Transfer Market.
Alejandro is a Tenerife FC youth product as he was part of their academy and then spent three years with Tenerife B between 2007 and 2010. In 2011, Mendoza moved to the Spanish side UB Conquense who play in the second division B of Spain, and then in 2012 he moved AT Granadilla.
Season 2012-2013
The 2012-2013 season was an excellent one for the Stripes and Alejandro himself, as the Stripes won their fourth Premier League title in their history while Alejandro managed to establish himself as one of the best defenders on the island.
Alejandro joined our Club on trial on the 30 July and he played two matches with our Club. His first match was on Thursday, 2 August in the 2-0 victory over Mosta in the semi-final of the AME Cup. In his second match, the final of the same competition, Alejandro's performance improved a lot, and it was evident that he was already settling in with the squad. Birkirkara won the match with a score of 2-1 over Sliema.
Following the release of Brazilian defender Rodrigo Pereira on Monday 6, August, Birkirkara signed the Spanish Central defender Morena where he agreed to a one-year contract on Wednesday, 8 August.
He made his debut with our Club in an official match on Monday 20 August in the comfortable 4-0 victory against Melita in the first match of the 2012-2013 Premier League.
Alejandro's first 2012-2013 season with our Club was a superb one as the Spaniard defender's five star performances easy established him as one of the best defenders on the island.
Playing in what is called the ‘libero' style, Mendoza's defending and leadership skills made him catch the eye of most. To round off a simply first amazing season with our Club, Mendoza had the pleasure to win the first league title with our Club as the Stripes clinched their fourth league title.
In the 2012-2013 season, Alejandro was the Birkirkara player that had most appearances in the Premier League as the Spaniard made 32 appearances, missing just one league match due to serving a one match ban.
Season 2013-2014
Mendoza formed part of the squad once again in the 2013-2014 season following enjoying a brilliant season in his first one with our Club. Mendoza once again confirmed his excellent and solid defence skills as he was once again a regular choice for Head Coach Mr. Paul Zammit.
During the 2013-2014 season, Alejandro made a total of twenty-six appearances in the BOV Premier League, in which he started all of the matches and managed to score three goals.
Alejandro Mendoza was voted as the best central defender along with his team-mate Nikola Vukanac for the 2013-2014 season during the MFPA Awards.
