Matheus Bissi is Brazilian and he was born on the 19 March 1991. Bissi joined our Club in the 2013 Transfer Market.

Matheus is a defender who since his first days of football always was described as a very promising player. Bissi enjoyed several positive spells in his native country during his teen-age years, which caught the attention of several famous clubs, both in Brazil and outside. Besides his positive experiences in Brazil, he had excellent spells in Portugal and Lithuania respectively before eventually joining our Club.

Youth Career

Matheus began his football career in his native country of Brazil, and at the age of just eleven years old, he joined his city-club, SP Piracicaba in the 2002-2003 season.

Matheus skills' quickly began to be noticed, and following three years with Pracicaba, he joined FC Porte Preta where he spent half a year, before joining XV de Piracicaba, a modest club from the Sao Paulo. With XV de Piracicaba, Bissi spent one year and a half.

In the 2008-2009 season, he made the next step of his career as he moved out of Brazil for the first time.

Season 2008-2009

In his first adventure away from his homeland, he joined the Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon, at the age of just eighteen years.

His first season with the Portuguese side was a memorable one as Matheus established himself as a strong defender in Sporting's rear-guard thanks to his excellent skills. In fact, Bissi was an essential asset to help them clinch the National under 19's League.

This was not the only honour that Bissi managed to win in his first year with the Portuguese side, as Sporting also won the Under 20 International Tournament of Bellinzona which was held in Switzerland.

Season 2009-2010

Have had a five-star season with Sporting, Matheus continued to build on his performances in the second season and once again he enjoyed an excellent season with the Portuguese side.

During this season, Matheus was again an essential player for the Club to win for the second consecutive time the National under 19's league and the Under 20 International Tournament of Bellinzona, in Switzerland. He also established himself as the leader of his team's rear-guard.

Matheus' second season with Sporting represented consistency and high level of football, with his physical strength, especially in the air being, his strongest point throughout the season. Bissi's skills were not limited to defending, as his long-distance free-kicks taken by his accurate powerful right foot were always dangerous to deal with.

One could say that it was of little or no surprise that interest Matheus continued to increase in no small way.

Season 2010-2011

Following a two season spell with Sporting Lisbon of Portugal, it was the Brazilian famous side, CR Flamengo who managed to capture the signature of the promising defender.

Matheus joined Flamengo on a one-year deal, with an option for another two seasons in a contract which he signed on Thursday, 30 September 2010. The deal was handled directly by the executive director Zico. Bissi formed part of the Under 20 squad which competed in the Brazilian Championship under 20.

A notable match during this season was on the 19 March 2011, when Mathues Bissi enjoyed a great 20th Birthday as Flamengo defeated Cabofriense with a 2-0 score.

Season 2011-2012

Season 2011-2012 proved to be another positive season for the Brazilian defender as he continued to prove his skills, as the promising defender gave several excellent performances.

Following his two year spell at Flamengo, Matheus begin to search for a fresh opportunity once again in order to continue building on his promising football career.

During his spell with Flamengo, Matheus played with several famous players such as the former Inter FC player, Adriano.

Season 2012-2013

Season 2012-2013 had two different challenges waiting for the promising defender.

In the beginning of the season, he joined Marcílio Dias FC on a loan from CR Flamengo. With Marcílio Dias, who play in the Brazilian league Serie D, Matheus found little space to leave his mark as he only made two appearances, in which he played the whole ninety minutes.

However, 2013 had a new challenge waiting for Bissi, as in the first day of February, he once again moved from native country Brazil, and he joined FK Banga Gargzdai, who play in Lithuania's top division.

Bissi's debut with the Lithuania's side arrived on 10 March of the same year, as he was given the green-light in the starting eleven in the match against FK Siauliai and they shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

During his spell with FK Banga, Bissi made nine appearances, which were all in the starting eleven selection.

Season 2013-2014

In the 2012-2013 season Birkirkara managed to clinch their fourth Premier League title in their history while enjoying having the best defence on the island. At the start of the next season, the Stripes received a major draw-back as they lost two out of three foreign defenders. Brazilian defender Rodrigo Pereira was transferred to Balzan FC, while Serbian defender Nikola Vukanac aimed to continue his career outside of Malta.

This led to the Stripes having a weakened rear-guard and the Club began to find the best replacements. Following assessing some foreign defenders, the choice fell on the Brazilian defender Matheus Bissi who joined our Club on Thursday, 22 August and he signed a one year contract.

He made his official debut in the second Premier League fixture on Saturday, 24 August in the 1-1 draw against Sliema Wanderers. Matheus played the whole ninety minutes and he had an excellent performance.

The first season with our Club turned to be a satisfactory one for the Brazilian promising defender as he made twelve appearances in the BOV Premier League, in which all of them started from the start. The Brazilian caught the eye of the Maltese football followers by his authority at the back. Also, during his first season, Bissi showed signs of good goal-scoring skills as he netted five goals during this 2013-2014 season.
