Fabrizio Miccoli is Italian and he was born on the 26 June 1979. In one of the biggest signings made by a Maltese Club, he joined Birkirkara FC in the 2015 Transfer Market.

Fabrizio needs no introduction to football, as the thirty-five year old forward has played with a host of top Clubs in Italy. He is best known for his successful spells with Juventus and more recently Palermo, before joining Lecce in 2013.

Fabrizio Miccoli has made 10 appearances for Italy between 2003 and 2004, scoring twice. He made his debut for the Italy national team under manager Giovanni Trapattoni against Portugal on 12 February 2003, creating the only goal for Bernardo Corradi. Before forming part of the National Team, he has also featured for the Italy National Team Under-18 and Under-21.

Usually deployed as a creative second striker, Miccoli is well known for his all-round attacking abilities, specifically his technique, pace, and his powerful and accurate finishing, both inside and outside the area.A prolific goalscorer, Miccoli is also a regular assist provider.

After he played for AC Milan and Casareno in the Youth Academy Sections, he joined Ternana. Following a successful four-year spell with them, he joined Juventus FC. However, he was loaned to Perugia before transferred to Fiorentina. Following another successful season with Fiorentina, Juventus bought the player again before loaning him to Benfica where he enjoyed a fantastic season scoring fourteen goals from thirty-nine matches.

Season 2007-2008 – Season 2012-2013

Following his loan to Benfica, Palermo bought the services of Miccoli on the 5 July 2007 and the spell with the Sicilian Club turned to be among the best of the Italian striker’s career.

He scored a total eight goals in his first season with the Sicilian club, including the winning goal in the Sicilian derby against Catania and enjoyed even a better season in the following one as teaming-up with Edinson Cavani up-front, they scored fourteen goals each.

Following extending his contract, Miccoli was also appointed the team’s captain in the 2009-2010 season and he scored nineteen goals to end as the third best scorer in Seria A that season. In that season, he also made a new record of the all-time Serie A leading goal scorer for Palermo.

In the 2010-2011 season, Miccoli played twenty-one matches and scored nine goals after recovering from an injury which had suffered in the previous season and he reached another milestone in the following season by becoming the Club’s top scorer in the whole club history. In that season he scored 16 goals from 28 matches.

Miccoli’s adventure with Palermo came to an end at the end of the 2012-2013 season as in this last season he played twenty-two matches and scored eight goals.

Season 2013-2014 – Season 2014-2015

Having been released by Palermo, Miccoli reached an agreement with US Lecce and a contract was formalised 17 July 2013. Miccoli was immediately made team captain of the team he supported as a boy. Miccoli scored 17 goals in 43 appearances in his two-year spell with Lecce.

Season 2015-2016

Birkirkara FC managed to acquire the services of Fabrizio Miccoli on Wednesday, 24 June 2015 with the Italian striker signing a one-year contract. He was presented to the supporters the following day in the players’ presentation for the 2015-2016 season.

Miccoli made his debut with our Club in the first leg of the first qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League, on Thursday 2 July, when he was included as a substitute twenty minutes from time in the goal-less draw against Ulisses FC.

Fabrizio Miccoli was instrumental in Birkirkara’s historic victory over West Ham United in the second leg of the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League home match, when his goal after fourteen minutes was enough to beat the English side with a 1-0 score. However, the Stripes were eliminated with a penalty shoot-out.

The Italian striker was also a key-player in Birkirkara’s league campaign in the first four months but in December 2015, he requested to be released from the Club, with the intention to retire permanently as a player from football. The Club accepted his request and he was released on the 15 December 2015.
