Paul Fenech is a Maltese midfielder and was born on the 20 December 1986. He joined our Club in the 2008 Summer Transfer Market.
Paul, is a Naxxar Lions product, which he had made in the Maltaís Premier Division. Paul is described as a very energetic midfielder and heís considered among the best midfielders on our island as his attributes makes him a midfielder of a certain class.
Fenech played in all the National Team top levels following playing with the Under-19ís Team, the Under-21ís Team and during the 2009-2010 season also with the National Senior Team.
Fenech is a Naxxar Lions product, then moved on to play for Msida Saint-Joseph, with whom he spent two years and, in fact, it was the 'Saints' who gave Fenech the chance to make his debut in the Premier League in 2005.
In his two season with Msida Saint-Joseph with the Senior Team, he made sixty appearances and managed to score four goals.
During the Summer of 2007, Paul was attracting a number of Clubs, but it was Birkirkara FC that managed to win the signature of Paul Fenech and the hard-working midfielder signed a five-year contract with our Club.
The first season with our Club was a memorable one. He had a very satisfactory season where he was a regular choice to Coach Mr. John Buttigieg and made twenty-eighth appearances in the Premier League and scored one goal. The best was yet to come as the Stripes won their fourth FA Trophy to be the first silverware for Fenech with our Club.
Despite the 2008-2009 didnít produce any silverware for the Stripes, Paul continued to build on his performances and he continued to establish himself as one of the most promising midfielders on our islands.
During this season, he made twenty-seven appearances in which he started twenty-five matches while he was included as a substitute twice. He managed to score goal during the Premier League campaign.
The 2009-2010 season remains a memorable one for Paul Fenech as Birkirkara on the third BOV Premier League in their history. For Fenech, this was the first league title in his career.
In another outstanding season for the tireless midfielder, he made twenty-six appearances in the memorable Premier League campaign, scored once and he was voted twice the BOV Player of the Match.
This season also had a special meaning for Fenech as he recognition at a National Level once again when he was called by the former head-coach of Birkirkara, Mr. John Buttigieg to join the Maltese National Team. He made his National debut against Bulgaria in a Friendly Match in which Malta lost with a 4-1 score line.
In the next season, the 2010-2011, Paul Fenech reduced his level as he failed to reach the previous season's level although he was still one of the best players in the Birkirkara midfield. In the Premier League he had 23 appearances, and he started in all of them, while he missed 5 matches through suspension. He managed to score four goals this season, and he managed to score his first brace ever with Birkirkara in the win against Hibernians with a score of 3-1 which was played on the 18th December 2010.
Paul's performances improved considerably from the previous season, and in the Premier League he made 26 appearances, in which he began 24 and was included as substitute twice. In this competition, he managed to find the net once, when on the 11 November, Paul scored the equalising goal in the 2-1 win over Balzan Youths.
Paul's 2012-2013 season was a dramatic one which saw him clinching the top awards both with his Club and personally. The Stripes won their fourth Championship in their history while on a personal note, he won the second league title in his career. The hard-working midfielder also won the MFA Player of the Year award, for the first time.
In a season where Paul's performances certainly impressed the Maltese football followers, he made 29 appearances in the Premier League, all in the starting eleven. Also, in the same competition, Paul managed to score two goals and was voted as the man-of-the-match twice.
On Friday, 14 June 2013, the Malta Football Association held the MFA Awards 2013 and during the event, Paul Fenech was awarded as the Best Player of the year for the 2012-2013 season.
Has been awarded as the MFA Footballer of the Year in the end of the 2012-2013 season, Paul Fenech confirmed that he is one of the best Maltese players on our island in the 2013-2014 season. Once again, Fenech enjoyed superb performances in the midfield department as the tireless midfielder once again established himself as one of the key players of Birkirkara.
During the BOV Premier League campaign, Paul played thirty matches, starting all matches from the beginning. He netted six goals in the BOV Premier League and another one in the U*BET FA Trophy. He was voted the BOV Player of the Match for four times.
Paul enjoyed an outstanding season with our Club as the tireless midfielder had a consistent season rounded with excellent displays in the heart of the Stripesí midfield.
He remained a regular player and a key player for the Stripes. In the BOV Premier League, he made twenty-nine appearances, all from the start. He scored two goals while he was voted three times the BOV Player of the Match
In the last days of the season, Paul brought to an end speculations that he will leave the Club by signing a fresh three-year contract on Thursday, 14 May 2015.
Few days after signing this contract, Paul scored the winning goal in the extra-time period in the 1-0 victory over Valletta in the Semi-Final of the FA Trophy before lifting the cup one week thanks to a 2-0 victory over Hibernians.
Paul Fenechís adventure with our Club after nine successful years came to an end in the 2016 January Transfer Window, when in a swap deal, he joined Balzan FC while Edison Bilbao Zarate joined our Club.
During his nine-year adventure with our Club, He made 231 appearances in the BOV Premier League and scored twenty-four goals. He won two BOV Premier League titles, two FA Trophies, two Super Cups and once the Euro Challenge Cup, while he won the MFA Best Player of the Year in 2013.
