Thanks to the experience that he gained in the Under 19 National Squad, Paul showed instantly that one day he would be one of the best midfielders on the island and today, we have seen that Paul is one who contributes in no small way in the midfield section for the current champions of Malta, Birkirkara.
Paul Fenech spent two successful seasons with Msida SJ, during which he was the main target of several powerful clubs in the Maltese premier League and, finally, it was Birkirkara which managed to sign Paul Fenech for five years.
Paul's experience continued to increase at a National level as he was playing in the National Team again, this time in the Under 21 National Squad
Paul is considered to be one of the most energetic midfielders on the island; his determination and fighting spirit makes him a player of a certain class.
During the 2007-2008 season, his first season with 'The Stripes', Paul was known to be one of the leading midfielders for Birkirkara. In this season, Paul managed to win his first FA Trophy with 'The Stripes' thanks to a narrow 2-1 win against Hamrun Spartans.
The 2008-2009 season was another successful season for Paul as his creativity continued to increase the power of 'The Stripes'.
During the 2009-2010 season, Paul received recognition at a National Level once again when he was called by the former head-coach of Birkirkara, Mr. John Buttigieg to join the Maltese National Team.
He made his National debut against Bulgaria in a Friendly Match in which Malta lost with a 4-1 score line.
Paul Fenech won his 1st Premier League with 'The Stripes' at the age of 23 on the 5th May when our team was presented with the well deserved Premier League title.
In the next season, the 2010-2011, Paul Fenech reduced his level as he failed to reach the previous season's level although he was still one of the best players in the Birkirkara midfield. In the Premier League he had 23 appearances, and he started in all of them, while he missed 5 matches through suspension. He managed to score four goals this season, and he managed to score his first brace ever with Birkirkara in the win against Hibernians with a score of 3-1 which was played on the 18th December 2010.
Paul's performances improved considerably from the previous season, and in the Premier League he made 26 appearances, in which he began 24 and was included as substitute twice. In this competition, he managed to find the net once, when on the 11 November, Paul scored the equalising goal in the 2-1 win over Balzan Youths.
Paul's 2012-2013 season was a dramatic one which saw him clinching the top awards both with his Club and personally. The Stripes won their fourth Championship in their history while on a personal note, he won the second league title in his career. The hard-working midfielder also won the MFA Player of the Year award, for the first time.
In a season where Paul's performances certainly impressed the Maltese football followers, he made 29 appearances in the Premier League, all in the starting eleven. Also, in the same competition, Paul managed to score two goals and was voted as the man-of-the-match twice.
