by Matthaeus Grasso - 23rd June 2009

Birkirkara FC kicked-off their 2009-2010 campaign with a narrow 0-1 defeat against Sliema W. in the Euro Challenge Cup.

Despite this disappointing result, Birkirkara were the better side throughout the match, and this narrow defeat can surely be regarded as an unfair result.

The only goal of the match arrived just two minutes after the restart, when youngster John Mintoff, took advantage of a defensive blunder and managed to beat Bernard Paris with a good shot.

Birkirkara had the following players on trial: Nemanja Kokanovic, Davor Vidosavljevic, Peter Pavlovic. Furthermore, Iro Curmi was returning from a loan spell at St.George's.

Birkirkara's next opponent will be eternal rivals Valletta, as both sides meet at the Centenary Stadium with the kick-off scheduled to take place at 21.00
