Interview with Michael Fraser

by Ayrton Galea - 22nd November 2010

On Sunday evening Birkirkara managed to beat Qormi with a 2-0 result, and it was the first clean sheet for our rear guard in this current league.

Since we are talking about the rear guard we decided to interview the Scottish goalkeeper, Michael Fraser, who had a good performance during yesterday's game.

We wanted to know more about this Scottish goalkeeper who signed with our Club on the 11th October, just a few days before the clash against Valletta.

We asked Michael if he had been in Malta before and what he thought of this small island. He said, "I had never been in Malta before but my impression is really good. It is a beautiful country with friendly people, and the weather is much nicer than it is in Scotland"

Then we turned our focus on his experience with our Club. "So far at Birkirkara I think things have gone well for me personally. When I came here I had lost my enjoyment for football because I had a hard time last season but joining this team has helped me become happier playing the game again.

"I definitely think I have settled in well. This is due to the coaches and players all being very helpful and welcoming. We have an excellent spirit in our dressing room and although we have had some mixed results it is this unity among us that will help us get back on top again!"

Then we changed subject and asked Michael about the differences found between the Maltese league and the Scottish league. To which he replied "obviously football is similar everywhere you go but there are some differences. I think in Scotland the game is played at a faster, more physical pace which is challenging but it also leads to a less technical game. In Malta I have seen some very nice football."

We asked Michael for his opinion about how Birkirkara are doing in the current Premier League. He replied "Just now we are not where we would like to be in the league, but we have had a difficult spell with some bad results and some injuries as well but every team in the world goes through these times and it is the good teams who are able to bounce back stronger than before, and that is what we will be aiming to do!"

About yesterday's match where, as we said earlier 'The Stripes' emerged as winners with a 2-0 result Michael had this to say. "I think we played very well in our last game. Our defense was very strong and solid and our midfielders were able to get on the ball and create chances. I think we have some brilliant midfielders and the more we can use them the better we will play. Obviously Emiliano scored 2 excellent goals for us and all the front players did very well also. A big part of our win though was down to our coach. He has worked very hard over the last 2 weeks with us on how he wants us to play and I think his tactics for this game were very good."

We pointed out to Fraser that this the first clean sheet in this league for our team and he replied, "Yes it is nice to get a clean sheet for us guys at the back. It is what we always aim for. Hopefully we can now carry on like this and get better and better."

Michael concluded this interview with a message for the Birkirkara FC supporters. "I would like to say thank you to the supporters for their loyal support. During matches it is a great boost when you have a vocal support behind you. I hope that from now on we will be able to repay you with some great performances and results."
