"We are in need of your support"

by Ayrton Galea - 4th December 2010

Tomorrow afternoon, Birkirkara FC will be involved in the first match of the second round. We decided to ask one of our youngsters, Rowen Muscat, some questions.

We started this interview by asking Rowen to give his comments about the previous game against Tarxien Rainbows, where our team dominated, but failed to score. Rowen's first words were, "Although in the last match we failed to grab maximum points, there were many positive things. The only thing that we failed in was that we didn't conclude well the many opportunities that we created."

He added on a more positive note, "We can see as well that since the win against Qormi, our opponents did not have many attempts to score. Thanks to this, we had most of the possession which meant that we could adopt the game as we wished."

As Rowen himself pointed out, we are not converting into goals in the many opportunities that the team is creating. We asked Rowen what in his opinion is causing this problem, which did not seem to exist last year. He answered, "It is true, that last year we did not have this problem. But then again this year this seems to be the only problem that we are having because the opportunities are still being created. This means that the players are still doing their job well, but scoring chances are being lost. This might be due to us not paying enough attention. The coach, together with us the players, are working hard to solve this and returning to being in last year's form.

Another negative and unfortunate situation that we are going through this season is the amount of injuries that our team is suffering. So far we have never played a whole match in the full strength. We asked our youngster how much this is affecting our team. Muscat replied, "Yes, this is true also the opposite of what happened last year. We are suffering from a big amount of injuries at the same time but our coach brought several good players. So, in a situation like we're going through, there will always be good players to replace those that are injured. I believe that the injuries affect our team but every player that replaces an injured one tries to give his best. Just like the one who is injured. So I don't think this is a valid excuse for not being in the place that we want to be. "

Then we asked Rowen how they are preparing for this important game, and he replied, "From the game against Qormi we started preparing to forget the past and concentrate on the future. The game against Sliema, like all the other games, we consider as important. Not just because they have a good team which always gives us a hard fought challenge, but because now we have to continue moving forward in the standings."

The final question for Rowen was about the importance of the supporters both for him and for the rest of the players. He said, "As everyone knows, the supporters for us are considered to be the 12th player. As an example, in the game against Valletta, when we suffered two injuries and everything seemed lost for us, if it was not for the support we received, we might not have managed to recover from the situation. Thanks to your big support, we managed to bring the equalizer and take a point from the game. I do believe that in this moment in time, more than ever, we are in need of your support."
