Interview with Club's Physical Trainer, Darren Farrugia

For this week's interview we decided to talk with somebody who might not yet be well known with our readers, the Club's physical trainer, Darren Farrugia.

We opened this interview by asking him how and why he decided to choose this job. Darren said, "I became a Football Physical Trainer through the 1st Football Physical Trainer course organized by the MFA. I always loved football and since I started the coaching career I always dreamt of becoming a Football Physical Trainer because it is a very interesting area in which I'd like to keep on working for long. I believe coaching football is a never ending learning journey which keeps me interested and enthusiast to learn."

Every job has its difficulties but which are of this job? Darren explains by saying "First of all it requires a lot of thinking and planning. It is a very detailed job since it entails the physical fitness of all football players and therefore one has to construct sessions keeping in mind various important factors to fulfill the required conditioning of the squad."

The next question for the 25 year old trainer was, about what he think is the relevance of a physical trainer in today's world. He replied, "The relevance of a football physical trainer is very much important since it is something specifically structured and tailored for the team. It gives more monitoring in maintaining and improving the physical conditioning of all the players."

To be a good physical trainer is not an easy task. We asked Darren what makes a good physical trainer? He told us, "Planning good and interesting sessions that are related towards the specific day of the week and motivating all football players to keep on giving their very best throughout the training sessions."

If being a good physical trainer is difficult, let alone being the trainer one of the top clubs in Malta. We asked Darren what was his reaction when Birkirkara F.C. offered him this job. He told us, "At the beginning I was really flattered and enthusiastic by the great opportunity that came up. Moreover, the fact that I was going to work with Paul Zammit as a coach was something of a great enthusiasm since in my opinion he is one of the best coaches that will help me improve and gain a great experience in this area."

Darren is currently with our Club, but was he always a Birkirkara supporter? Darren said, "I always felt sympathy towards the Birkirkara F.C. team."

We concluded the interview by asking about his targets with our club. Darren said "My target at this point in time is to continue working with Birkirkara F.C. so as to gain more experience and keep on working hard to win the Trophy title."
