Youngster Luke Montebello joins A.S. Livorno Calcio

by Jonathan Spiteri - 28th July 2011

On Thursday 28th July Luke Montebello, the promising youngster and product of Birkirkara FC Youth Nursery, together with Fabio Muscat of Valletta FC, travelled to Italy in order to join the Livorno Youth Academy, in the region of Tuscany. This season Livorno 'A' will be competing in the Serie B league after being a whisker away of making it to the promotion playoffs that would have gave them a chance of making it to the Serie A. Both Luke Montebello and Fabio Muscat form part of the Maltese Under-17 National Team.

Montebello, who started training with the Birkirkara FC YN since the tender age of five, singed a two-year deal. Apart from having two training sessions daily, he will also be provided with academic education in order for him not to leave his current studies. It was during an international match that, when in the presence of Italian scouts, Montebello had excellent performances, finding the net and attracting the attraction of the Livorno men. It was then when, thanks to Mr. Bjorn Vassallo, the MFA CEO, concrete talks began. These contacts led to the two Maltese players being offered a trial at A.S. Livorno' training facilities, where they where involved in two matches with Montebello scoring in both. These performances earned him a two-year contract, with the possibility of this being renewed if the club feels he can make the grade. From their part, Birkirkara FC and Birkirkara FC Youth Nursery immediately acknowledged that this was a golden opportunity for the young striker and, after the necessary negotiations were carried out, Montebello joined Livorno.

Luke Montebello met the Nursery Committee in order to thank the same Committee, all coaches and players with whom he had the pleasure to play at Birkirkara. The Nursery presented him with a memento and wished Montebello the best of luck for his new adventure and in his future career.
