Ryan Scicluna Interviewed

by Ayrton Galea - 20th April 2012

After a short break from interviewing a player from the Senior Team, this week we decided to talk with our promising youngster, Ryan Scicluna.

Throughout this season, Ryan's performances has improved from match to match, and has even managed to win a regular place with the senior team. In this interview we talked about his personal life, his involvement with both the Senior Team and the Under 19, and other topics.

Who is Ryan Scicluna?

I am 18 years old, and I live in Lija. I am an outgoing person and love to have a laugh.

How do you spend your regular day?

In the morning I either do some gym work or relax, and in the evening I train and after that I relax at home, usually.

How do you spend your weekends?

Before every game I stay home relaxing and after the game I go out with my friends.

What are your main hobbies besides football?

I like playing with the PlayStation.

Which is your favourite kind of music?

Right now one of my favourite singers is Rihanna.

Do you have a role model? Who and why?

Andrea Pirlo and Fabregas, because I like their style.

Do you follow international football? If yes, which is your favourite nation when it comes to football, and which is your favourite foreign Club?

My favourite nation is Italy when it comes to football, and from the foreign clubs it would be AC Milan.

Who is your favourite player?

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

How is the atmosphere in the Birkirkara dressing room?

It's great.

Who is your best team-mate?

It's not fair to mention just one as they all treat me well.

What does it mean to you that recently you won a regular place with the First Team?

It's a great pleasure for me, but I just have to keep working to keep my place and keep on improving as much as I can.

What does scoring with the First Team mean to you?

It is always nice to score goals, let alone with the First Team.

Are you satisfied with your performances so far? Do you think there's a room for improvement?

I'm quite happy, but I know I can give much more, and I hope to show this in the remaining games.

Which was your best match so far?

I have to say against Floriana when we won because of its importance.

What can you tell us about the season of the Under 19 team?

I guess it was a positive season. I think it was the best we ever had as a group, and hopefully we can try and win the knock-out.

Which were the best and worst matches of the Under 19's this season?

The best match was against Pieta, who won the league. We beat them with a player less with a score of 2-1. The worst was against Luxol, it was like we didn't even take part in the game.

Due to your First Team involvements, you are often not available to play with the Under 19's, or only included as a substitute. How does this make you feel?

I would love to play with both but it's not possible unfortunately. But I think they have done a great job, and I still go and watch them play.

What are your comments about the last match against Floriana?

It wasn't our best game but we still didn't deserve to lose, but luckily for them they took their chances and managed to win the match.

What are your comments about the next match against Valletta?

It will be a tough match, but if we show the commitment we showed in our last match against them, I'm sure we can earn some points.

As a youngster you grow up with Birkirkara FC and know well the rivalry with Valletta. What makes matches against Valletta so special?

Growing up, this was the game I really looked forward to see, I think the history of the two teams makes this game so special.

What is your message to the supporters?

This might not have been the best season for Birkirkara but this happens to all top clubs round the world. Thanks for all the support u have given us and let's all stay together for the final 4 matches.
