Birkirkara to kick off new season against Hibernians

by Ayrton Galea - 20th June 2012

Birkirkara will kick-off the 2012-2013 season tomorrow evening when they will be involved in the first Euro Cup match against Hibernians. This pre-season competition should serve as a good preparation for the four participating clubs that will all be involved in UEFA competition matches next month.

Last season Birkirkara went through what could be called a roller coaster ride as lack of consistency was again the main factor in Birkirkara's matches. Despite saying this, they still ended in the third place and extended their own record to 16 consecutive years in qualifying for UEFA competitions.

Hibernians also oscillated between satisfying and disappointing moments last season. Following the disappointment of losing the BOV Premier League title to arch rivals Valletta, they bounced back with capturing the U*BET FA Trophy which ended their season on a positive note.

So far Birkirkara has not make any drastic changes from last season's squad. Four out of the five foreigners have been confirmed, Moises Avila Perez being the only foreigner that was released. Yesterday Birkirkara opened their transfer market campaign when they secured the signing of the former Marsaxlokk goalkeeper, Reuben Gauci.

The match will be played at the Centenary Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 18:30. Transport from Valley Road will leave at 17:30.

As already announced by this website, tickets for Euro Cup matches can be bought from the Birkirkara FC bar, Infetti Training Grounds bar or from Tikku's Detergent Shop in Birkirkara. Tickets for these matches cost €6 for adults, €4 for holders of the 'KartaAnzjan' and €1 for children under twelve years of age.

Come on the Stripes!
