Interview with Patrick Borg

by Ayrton Galea - 3rd July 2012

In the first interview for the 2012-2013 season we decided to interview one of our Youth Nursery products who this year will once again form part of the First Team Squad, Patrick Borg.

Can you tell us something about yourself?

My name is Patrick Borg, and I'm 24 years old. I am from Birkirkara and I prefer to let others judge my character then me talking about it.

How do you spend your regular day?

My regular day consists of working in the morning, then resting for a bit before going for training.

How do you spend your weekends?

My weekends depend a lot on the football schedule. If there's a match or a training session, I have to adapt to the situation and rest and prepare myself well.

What are your main hobbies besides football?

Apart from football, I like to go out and socialise but unfortunately these two things don't go that well together.

Which, if any, are your favourite book, song and movie?

As a movie, Brave Heart is one of the most that I enjoyed watching. Recently, a friend of mine recommended to me a documentary movie, which I really enjoyed watching. It is based on a true story about football, called The Two Escobars

Do you have a role model? Who and why?

Without any doubt, my role model is my father. He is always by my side and helps me in everything that I put my mind to.

Do you have a favourite quote or motto?

I don't have any particular quote or motto because I think that it depends on the phase you're going through and they change a lot in every situation. But the word ‘believe' has an infinite meaning in life and I try to believe that God can handle every situation we're in. If he brought us to it, he'll get us through it!

Do you follow international football? If yes, which is your favourite nation when it comes to football, and which is your favourite foreign club?

As an national team my favourite is Brazil while my favourite club is Inter.

Who are your favourite players?

My favourite players are Lucio and Javier Zanetti.

What is your biggest fear on the pitch?

I don't fear anything on the pitch but when it comes to big matches there will be always that little fear of letting down your club's supporters, if the result will not be a positive one.

What is the Coach like at half time?

The Coach is always the same. From before the game till the end of the game, he knows what his job is and he's out there to do it! What needs to be done in the half time, he will do it.

What are your comments on your loan spell on with Marsaxlokk? How satisfied were you with your performance?

It had more downs than ups as you all know what happened, but still, it was a very good experience for me that helped me grow.

Following your loan spell with Marsaxlokk, this year you are back to form part of our squad. What does wearing our shirt mean to you?

Wearing the shirt of the place I grew up in means a lot to me, and Birkirkara is one of the top teams in Malta, so it's always a source of pride to be wearing the Stripes' shirt.

After your first few days back in the squad, how are you feeling?

I feel at home, because at Birkirkara FC we feel like family.

What are your comments about the Euro Cup?

The Euro Cup was a three match preparation for the following matches of the UEFA Europa League. The emphasis for these matches was to prepare ourselves as much as possible. The results weren't positive, but we promise everyone that we are working hard for the games that matter!

We are facing FK Metalurg Skopje this Thursday. What are your comments? Do you believe that we can advance to the next round?

Next Thursday's match is an important match for us. All the team is working hard for the upcoming two matches. These type of matches are always more difficult than the others, but I always believe in the team, always!

What are your targets for this season?

Obviously every player wants to win titles, and I'm no exception. I want to be part of this team that together will fight for honours.

Do you have any message for the supporters, especially in view of Thursday's match?

Nearly everyone follows football nowadays and everybody talks about it and say what they want to say. But one thing we all need, to makes us even more eager to win, is that all of you out there to be behind us in every situation. We all need your support in every game. We are the biggest town and we expect that we will always see our supporters in their full strength to help us in the game and to show that Birkirkara is one big family.
