Birkirkara to face Floriana in a difficult match

by Ayrton Galea - 15th September 2012

Birkirkara will be aiming to extend their perfect streak this evening when in a difficult match they will face Floriana.

After three matches, Birkirkara are leading the table with nine points along with Valletta and Hibernians but ‘The Stripes' have a better goal difference than the other two teams. After they opened the Premier League in style by beating Melita with a comfortable 4-0 score, Birkirkara defeated Balzan Youths and Rabat Ajax with a 2-1 and 2-0 scores respectively.

On the other hand, despite all the controversy and drastic changes in squad and committee, Floriana are occupying the fourth position with five points and they are still unbeaten after the first three matches. After being held by Sliema Wanderers and Hamrun Spartans with an identical 1-1 score, ‘The Greens' registered their first win in the third match when they defeated Balzan Youths with a 3-1 score.

Both teams will be all out to gain another three points. While Birkirkara will be aiming to extend their perfect streak and register their fourth consecutive win, Floriana will be trying to reduce the gap with the lading three teams.

Last season matches between Birkirkara and Floriana were always balanced and entertaining. In fact, these two teams won two direct encounters each. Following a 3-0 win by Birkirkara, Floriana got a 1-0 win in the second round. Birkirkara kicked-off the Championship Pool with a 3-1 win but in the fourth round it was Floriana who managed to beat Birkirkara with a 2-1 score. This season, these two teams already met once in the Euro Cup where ‘The Stripes' easily defeated Floriana with a 3-0 score, with Shola Shodiya being instrumental by scoring once and serving two assists,

Ryan Scicluna will be back for Birkirkara after he was suspended in the last match against Rabat Ajax. Floriana are expected to be in full strength.

The match will be played at the Hibernians Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 19:00. Transport from Valley Road is available and it will leave at 18:00.

Come on the Stripes!
