Birkirkara FC Youth Nursery Coaching Seminar

by Jonathan Barbara - 17th September 2012

The annual Birkirkara FC Youth Nursery Coaching Seminar kicked-off at the University Residence, Lija with 15 participants coming to listen to the Nursery Chairman Mannie Galea, Technical Director Paul Zammit, Nursery's Director of Youth Coaching Marko Glumac, and Nursery Administrator Jonathan Barbara.

The aim of the Seminar was to introduce the Nursery's vision for the next three years to the main element of the Birkirkara School of Football, that is the coaches.

Chairman Mannie Galea conducted the first session of the Seminar, introducing himself in his first year in the helm of the school and what is his vision along with his committee and the senior club to make the Nursery one of the best on the island. "The next months are important. The philosophy needs to be understood by all," Architect Mr Galea opined. "Let's not stay stuck in the past. Let's embrace the new concepts. It's the right beginning," he added.

That was followed by Technical Director Paul Zammit's session - 'Club Vision'. Mr Zammit encouraged the present coaches to be motivated and be the start of a new era at the Nursery. He emphasized the importance of the nursery and how this should be the base for our senior club if we all strive and work hard to help children develop into completed players. Mr Zammit stressed out that "To improve the standard of the football in the country, we need to select the best players. But prior to that, we need to train and groom them. We as Coaches stay responsible for that."

The third part of the seminar was conducted by the Director of Youth Coaching Marko Glumac. Mr Glumac presented all coaches with a development programme and went into detail to explain how the coaches within the nursery shall work throughout the season.

Finally Jonathan Barbara, secretary and administrator within the nursery provided details which coaches need to be aware of, to better the image of the nursery.

Theoretical and practical sessions will be continue to be held at the Birkirkara School of Football, particularly at the Infetti Training Grounds, where the Birkirkara FC Youth Nursery is based.
