Birkirkara to face Sliema in 5th league match

by Ayrton Galea - 21st September 2012

Birkirkara will be involved in another difficult challenge when in the fifth game of the league, they will face Sliema Wanderers.

Last Saturday Birkirkara maintained their perfect streak and made them four from four, by beating Floriana with a comfortable 3-0 score, thanks to another brilliant performance. Before this game, Birkirkara defeated Melita with a 4-0 score in the first match of the league, Balzan Youths with a 2-1 score and Rabat Ajax with a 2-0 score.

On the other hand, Sliema Wanderers paid the maximum price for their mistakes in their last outing, when despite taking an early lead, opponents Qormi managed to turn the game around and won with a 2-1 score. This was the second consecutive defeat after they were defeated by Mosta with a 2-0 score. Before these two matches, Sliema Wanderers drew with Floriana with a 1-1 score in the first match of the league and defeated Tarxien thanks to a great comeback and late goals with a 3-2 score.

Birkirkara are currently in the first position with 12 points from four matches. So far, Birkirkara scored 11 goals while they conceded only one, and have the best defensive record until now. On the other hand, Sliema Wanderers are in the 7th position with four points from four matches. ‘The Blues' scored five goals while they conceded seven goals in four matches.

‘The Stripes' will be all out to extend their perfect run and make them five wins from five matches to make sure that they will stay on top of the table for another week while Sliema will be seeking to return to winning ways.

These two teams already met twice in the AME Cup. In the first match, Birkirkara came from two goals behind and defeated Sliema with a score of 4-2, while in the final of the same competition, Birkirkara also were in the disadvantage but managed to come back strongly and won the match with a 2-1 score, to win this pre-season cup.

The match will be played at the Victor Tedesco Stadium in Hamrun and it is scheduled to kick off at 19:15. Transport from Valley Road will leave at 18:00.

Come on the Stripes!
