A dramatic goal by Raina Giusti in the first minute of added time in the second half enabled Birkirkara to pick up three precious points and ends Pembroke's unbeaten run when the Stripes defeated the leaders of the Women's Under 16 League with a 2-1 score.

After Birkirkara seemed to be heading to a 1-0 victory, Pembroke equalised at the last minute and they seemed that they gave the Stripes a sour Deja-Vu of what happened in the first round. However, energetic, determined and a never give up attitude by the Stripes surprised the most as they picked themselves up and came out strongly to register a dramatic winning late goal.

One should say that the win was a well deserved win for the yellow-reds who produced a fine match which gave the leaders of the league no space.

Following a goal-less first half, Birkirkara surged ahead early in the second half as they took the lead on the 27th minute. Raina Giusti made the best out of Pembroke's lack of concentration at the back and put Birkirkara ahead.

This seemed to be the wake up call for Pembroke, as the latter began to play more offensive football and they managed to put the Stripes defending at their own half.

When everything seemed loss for Pembroke, much credit to the Stripes' solid defence, they came up with the equalising goal. Off a freekick by goalkeeper Nicole Mifsud that caused a chaos in the box, Daniela Camilleri slotted home, much to the joy of her team-mates.

However, if someone thought that the match was over, Birkirkara reserved a sour surprise for the leaders. Following a fine pass, Raina Giusti advanced before beating goalkeeper Mifsud with a fine shot which put her team-mates and Coach with in a total joy.

Birkirkara will be involved in the next match against Kirkop on the 24 March.
