Birkirkara Under 15s managed to beat Pembroke Athleta for the second time in this season's campaign, this time with a less pronounced 4-2 scoreline when compared to the first round 7-1 drubbing. Thanks to this win, the Stripes consolidated the second place in the table, which is of utmost importance in view of the promotion ambitions.

Birkirkara started off the game in attacking mode, as planned, and it was thanks to some smart goalkeeping by Pembroke's number one that kept the result goal less in the first twenty minutes. The unexpected occured though, as Pembroke struck not once, but twice, on the counter attack to give them a two goal advantage against the run of play. Although shellshocked, the Stripes never gave up and managed to grab a goal back just before half time through Kieran Xuereb after a good run on the left and an accurate finish. This goal raised the spirits ahead of the half time team talk, where the boys were encourage to keep on playing and believing in themselves.

The second half saw the YellowReds dominating proceedings, and only had to wait a few minutes in order to level manners when off a corner, Max Borg Bartolo placed the ball in the back of the net. Birkirkara kept their momentum, and it was no surprise when Roberto Curmi gave his team the lead for the first time in the match. They did not lay down, and put the game beyond their opponents when Ryan Muscat made the score 4-2. It was only thanks to Pembroke's goalkeeper that the score remained the same until the final whistle, but, after all, it was the three points that mattered. Mr Charles Micallef, the Under 15s coach, was pleased especially with the collective effort he saw from his team. “The boys showed great spirit and teamwork without which they would have never managed to overturn the result in their favour. The collective effort was commendable and I am pleased with tactical and positional discipline. The result enhanced our promotion chances and its with performances like this that we can reach that important goal at the end of the season.”

The Under 15s will be back in action on Saturday 30th March versus Zejtun Corinthians at the Siggiewi Grounds with kick off scheduled for 16:45.
