Birkirkara and Hibernians to face off in Euro Cup's last match

by Ayrton Galea - 25th June 2013

The Euro-Cup friendly tournament will be coming to a close when the top two contestants of the 2012-2013 Premier League, Birkirkara and Hibernians, face each other in the last match.

This will be the first encounter since these two teams met in the memorable decider of the 11 May 2013, when the Stripes rounded off an excellent season by winning the match to clinch their fourth title in their history.

Hibernians can win the first unofficial honour of the 2013-2014 season as they are currently on the top of the table with Valletta who will be involved in their third and last match tonight.

Disappointing in results, but surely not in performances, the Stripes are at the bottom of the table with no points as Birkirkara is the only team who is still seeking its first points. However, the Champions' performances, especially in the last match against Valletta, were excellent. The only disappointment, besides conceding a deadly goal in the late stages of the match was the large amount of chances lost which could easily have earned the Stripes the first win in the competition.

On the other hand, Hibernians began the new season with a 1-1 draw against Valletta. They were awarded a penalty three minutes from time to salvage a point. In the second match, the Paolites defeated Sliema Wanderers with a 2-0 score thanks to a brace by Obiefule.

For this match, Birkirkara are expected to have new foreigners on trial, with the aim to find the ideal foreigners in preparation for the UEFA Champions League matches.

The match will be played at the Centenary Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 20:00.
