Birkirkara to kick off UWCL commitments

by Ayrton Galea - 8th August 2013

Birkirkara FC Women's Team will be starting their UEFA Women's Champions League commitments this evening, as the Stripes will face their first opponent, Twente FC.

The Maltese Champions Birkirkara FC was drawn face FC Twente '65 of Netherlands, WFC Osijek of Croatia and Glasgow City LFC of Scotland in Group 8 of the Qualifying Round of the UEFA Women's Champions League.

This will be the second consecutive time that the Women's Team will be participating in this competition, after the Stripes took part in last year's edition which was hosted for the first time ever in our island.

Birkirkara, the current Maltese Champions, earned this opportunity of taking part in this prestigious competition by clinching the First Division League title, thanks to a dramatic goal against Mosta in the league's last fixture which handled the title to the Stripes.

On the other hand, Twente also won their domestic league as they ended on the pole position with 33 points from fourteen matches, just two points over Standard Femina de Liège.

The match will be played at the Twente Stadion and it is scheduled to kick off at 19:00.

Come on the Stripes!
