Stripes to face Glasgow in another tough match

by Ayrton Galea - 10th August 2013

Maltese Women's Champions Birkirkara FC will be involved in their second match of UEFA Women's Champions League as the Stripes take on Glasgow City FC.

Have been defeated with a 6-0 score against Twente FC in their opening match despite their utmost effort where they played their hearts out, the Stripes will be optimistic to achieve a more respectable result, even if they will play against another powerful side in Women's football.

Glasgow City FC is a Scottish team which was formed in 1998, based in the town of Glasgow, and they are currently the best Scottish Women's side. They won last year's title with a one hundred percent winning record as they won all their thirteen matches to end in the pole position stage, eight points over Hibernian FC.

City began this year's Women's Champions League in style as in their first match they outclassed Osijek with a 7-0 score, and therefore they will start as absolute favourites in today's match.

This will be the second time that a Maltese side will face Glasgow City in this competition, as in the 2011-2012 season, Mosta faced Glasgow and they were trashed with a 6-0 score. In that season, Glasgow managed to write a new page in their history as they managed to make it for the round of 16 for the first and only time till now. Last year, Glasgow made it to the round of 32 before they were eliminated by the Dannish side with an aggregate of 2-1 score.

After missing last match, the Stripes' first signing in this Summer Transfer Window, Rebecca Chircop will be available for selection.

The match will be played at the ATC '65 Hengelo Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 16:00.

Come on the Stripes.
