Birkirkara under 15's team kicked off their league campaign in style as they trounced Balzan with a most comfortable 8-0 score.

Certainly that forward Gianluca Zammit was the hero for the Stripes as he had a dream start in the league by netting no less than four goals, with the other goals coming thanks to a brace by Julian Camilleri and goals by Ayrton Attard and substitute Tyron Cachia.

The First Half

Birkirkara quickly settled down, as they searched for an early goal and they went on the attack. However, Balzan also started the match on a fine-note as they were defending in numbers and managed to close the spaces well which denied the Stripes from the early goal.

Balzan failed to keep the pace with the Stripes who were enjoying an edge over their opponents and they were awarded for their efforts as they deservingly took the lead on the 25th minute thanks to Gianluca Zammit whose shot from close-range beat the goalkeeper, after being served by Karl Caruana.

Just before the half-time whistle, the Stripes scored two goals in quick succession to end the first thirty-five minutes with a comfortable lead.

First, it was Gianluca Zammit who managed to score his second personal goal. Jordan Sciberras produced a fine action on the wing before giving an excellent pass to Gianluca Zammit whose effort from the box beat the goalkeeper to double the Stripes' lead.

Just moments later, two became three. Ayrton Attard produced an excellent action on the wing, and he cut inside the box before his fine shot managed to beat the goalkeeper.

The Second Half

With three goals in the bag, the Stripes went out full of confidence for the second half and it was little surprise that they made them four. Defender Julian Camilleri managed to find enough space to conclude his action with a fine effort which beat the goalkeeper.

Twenty minutes in the second half, on the 55th minute, Tyron Cachia who had come on as a substitute just few moments before, quickly left his mark as he made them five for the Stripes. He made the best of a defensive blunder before controlling the ball and his fine shot beat the goalkeeper.

The Stripes, who seemed to be completely dominant in the second half made them five on the hour-mark. Gianluca Zammit managed to complete his hat-trick. Substitute and scorer of the fifth goal, Tyron Cachia produced a perfect through pass in the direction of Gianluca Zammit who advanced and his shot hit home.

Gianluca Zammit's firing performance was being a continuous torment for the Balzan's defence as the forward's form was being too much to handle. On the 65th minute, Neil Micallef gave a perfect corner kick which saw Zammit rising high to hit a powerful header to score his fourth personal goal and the seventh for the Stripes.

Just before the full-time whistle, the Stripes sealed the issue with the eight goal. Neil Micallef was once again the protagonist by setting-up another excellent corner which saw Julian Camilleri rising high to hit a perfect header which hit hard past the goalkeeper to score his second personal goal.

The referee's full-time whistle found Birkirkara notching a comfortable victory that gives the squad a huge morale boost for the next match.
