Women's team to face Kirkop United

by Ayrton Galea - 1st October 2013

Champions Birkirkara FC Women's Team will be hoping to extend their positive start in the BOV First Division League as this evening, they will be involved in a stern test against the newly promoted side Kirkop United FC.

On paper one would put the Stripes as hot favourites since they will face a newly-promoted side. However, Kirkop United worked hard to strengthen their squad as their ambition to keep their place with the top sides is very realistic thanks to the fine elements found in the squad.

However, football have a habit of surprising and despite that the league is still in its initial phase, the Stripes have to be at their best in order to overcome Kirkop who will be desperate to deliver a bold statement after their first big defeat in the league.

The Stripes opened the defence of their title with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Pembroke thanks to three goals in the second half after they struggled to penetrate in the first forty-five minutes. However, after the Champions surged ahead, they never looked back and there was little or no doubt where the first three points were going.

On the other hand, Kirkop had a tough start. Despite leaving a very-fine impression during the pre-season friendly matches, in their first match of the league, they were trashed by Hibernians with an 8-0 score.

The match will be played at Pembroke Athleta Ground and is scheduled to kick off at 20:15.

Come on the Stripes!
