Women's Team take on Hibernians in the highly anticipated clash

by Ayrton Galea - 15th October 2013

The BOV Women's First Division League is still in its initial stages but the two main title contenders, Champions Birkirkara FC and Super Cup Winners Hibernians FC, will this evening be looking to strike an early boost to their title hopes.

The Super Cup played last August won by Hibernians has ignited the rivalry between these two top sides for the upcoming Women's League campaign and tomorrow evening they will be eager to gain a morale boost at this early stage.

Birkirkara and Hibernians already have high hopes for this league campaign after they opened their league campaign on a high note.

Last Tuesday, the Champions registered their third consecutive victory by beating Raiders with a comfortable 8-1 score thanks to four goals in each half. They defeated Pembroke Athleta FC with a 3-0 score in the opening match and went on by beating Kirkop United FC with the same score.

On the other hand, Hibernians, have played two matches so far. They had two impressive performances by beating Kirkop United with a 8-0 score in the opening match and than trashed Raiders with a 10-0 score.

Birkirkara, who are joint leaders with Gozo FC with maximum points from three matches will be aiming to extend their excellent start while Hibernians will be seeking to make them three from three.

Last season, Birkirkara, and Hibernians who were the outsiders challengers for the title, met four times. Three encounters were won by the Stripes with the other one saw these two sides sharing the spoils in a 2-2 draw.

Before this important match, promising youngster Martina Cilia gave us her comments. “Since last year's league, I firmly believe that our team has greatly improved its possessional and tactical play as one whole unit. If we show an unerring and determined character from the very beginning of tomorrow's game, I am more than confident that we would be able to end the game with an air of victory. But only if we believe that we have potential, that we have what it takes to shine and win. Together as one whole team we will rise from our last defeat against the Hibernians' team and show them that the Champions still have a burning desire to lift the cup again, and that we will not go down without a fight. We will hold hands and play for each other, as one whole group, as we shout out our motto: one for all, all for one.”

The match will be played at the Luxol Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 20:15

Come on the Stripes.
