Stripes take on Naxxar Lions

by Ayrton Galea - 19th October 2013

With the first round of the BOV Premier League heading for the last stage, Champions Birkirkara FC will be seeking to find consistency, something which they lacked so far, when tomorrow evening, they will face another hurdle in the form of Naxxar Lions FC.

The inconsistency of Birkirkara was demonstrated again in their last match against Qormi when they were held in a 1-1 draw. Birkirkara had a disappointing performance following an excellent match just a week before against Valletta.

Trailing by seven points behind leaders Hibernians after just seven matches, pressure might be slowly building up on the Stripes. They know that they cannot let the gap grow any wider and there is little doubt, they will be eager to return to winning ways tomorrow evening.

The Stripes' league campaign so far has been a roller-coaster ride. After launching their campaign of defending the Premier League title with a 2-1 victory over Rabat Ajax, they shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw against Sliema Wanderers. Following 2-1 and 3-1 victories over Balzan and Mosta respectively, the Stripes were then defeated by Hibernians. In the last two matches they defeated Valletta and they were held by Qormi.

On the other hand, only few were expecting that Naxxar Lions would have a high-flying start in their return to Premier League Division. They are currently sixth with ten points. Despite having their ups and downs, the Lions are currently the surprise package of the league.

Following a satisfying goal-less draw against Floriana, Naxxar picked their first victory in the second league match against Qormi. They suffered their first defeat at the hands of Sliema Wanderers but they bounced back with a fine 3-1 victory over Tarxien Rainbows. Following two consecutive defeats against Valletta and Mosta respectively, they won the last match against Rabat Ajax with a 2-1 score.

The match will be played at the Victor Tedesco Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 18:15.

As the Club has stated last month, we would like to once again ask for exemplary behaviour from our supporters, and to avoid incidents that go against the spirit of the match, and is harming the Club on many levels, and tarnishing its image.

Come on the Stripes!
