Stripes to face Hibernians in the highly anticipated match

by Ayrton Galea - 21st December 2013

Champions Birkirkara FC will be hoping to make the best of Valletta's slip-up and move four points clear at the top of the BOV Premier League, when tomorrow afternoon they will be involved in the highly anticipated match against Hibernians FC.

Naxxar Lions registered a major surprise by bringing to an end Valletta's unbeaten run, Valletta are now one point behind Birkirkara, who with a match in hand, will be seeking revenge against Hibernians as it was the latter who so far inflicted Birkirkara's only loss so far.

The Maltese Champions are going through an excellent patch. They seem to be peaking at a crucial phase, as with the Championship Pool fast approaching, the Stripes are certainly on the right track of reaching their aspirations for the season.

Their shaky start was cancelled out quickly as Birkirkara FC are currently enjoying eight consecutive victories in the league. They will be all out seeking their ninth consecutive one, to consolidate their sole leadership in the BOV Premier League.

Last week, the Stripes registered another two important victories. After outclassing Sliema Wanderers 3-0 on Tuesday, last Sunday they came from a goal down to beat Mosta 2-1.

U*BET FA Trophy winners Hibernians had a high-flying start in the BOV Premier League. They kicked-off their league campaign in fashion, thanks to seven victories from seven matches. The Paolities were also boosted by inflicting Birkrikara's only defeat so far, in this league campaign.

After opening a six-point lead at the top of the table after just seven matches, this impressive start confirmed the Paolities' strong challenge for this Premier League. Having lost precious points against less quoted teams, and then in the direct clash against Valletta, they are now currently in the third place, three points under Birkirkara and two under Valletta. In their last match, they returned to winging ways by beating Rabat Ajax with 4-1.

Birkirkara will be without the services of Joseph Zerafa, who is banned for one match after being sent off in the match against Mosta. On the other hand, Hibernians will have foreign duo Zoran Levnaic and Marcelo Dias making their return following a one-match suspension.

In the first round match, Hibernians brought the seven matches stretch without beating Birkirkara to an end, as Jackson Lima's strike handed the Paolities a 1-0 victory.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 16:00. Transport from Valley Road will leave at 15:00.

Come on the Stripes!
