Birkirkara favourites to make it to the final eight

by Ayrton Galea - 20th January 2014

Birkirkara FC will start as clear favourites to book a place in the Quarter-Finals of the U*BET FA Trophy, when on Tuesday afternoon they take on the BOV First Division side of St. Andrew's.

Birkirkara are currently enjoying an impressive winning streak of twelve league matches, and they are set to make it to the final eight of the second most prestigious competition on the island.

Although the Stripes will start as favourites, they have vast experience of being at the receiving end of nasty surprises in this competition, and they will be all out to show that they have learned the lessons.

Birkirkara advanced to this round by eliminating Premier Division side Vittoriosa side with a 4-1 score, while St. Andrew's began the adventure in this competition from the second round. They eliminated Mgarr United 3-0 score, and then defeated San Gwann 2-1.

St. Andrews are having a disappointing season in the BOV First Division League, as they lie in the ninth position, with thirteen points from nine matches. They are yet to register their first victory in three months, as they have not won a match in the last eight outings.

In the January Transfer Market, they lost one of their key-players when veteran player, William Barbosa moved back to the Premier League by joining Tarxien Rainbows FC.

The match will be played at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, and is scheduled to kick off at 18:00.

Come on the Stripes!
