Stripes to take on Tarxien

by Ayrton Galea - 26th January 2014

Maltese Champions Birkirkara FC will be seeking to extend their impressive record of consecutive victories, when on Monday evening they take on Tarxien Rainbows.

Birkirkara have been giving superb performances in these last weeks, and they will be all out to maintain their six-point lead at the top of the table. A victory today will ensure that they will be going to the important clash against Valletta next weekend six points ahead of them.

The Stripes are currently enjoying the Club's record of most consecutive league victories, set on Saturday 18th January, when they chalked their twelfth straight win. On that day Birkirkara registered their league's biggest victory when they gave out a five-star performance to outclass Naxxar and emerged victorious with a 7-1 score in what was without doubt Birkirkara's best match of the season.

On Tuesday, The Stripes gained another boost when they booked their passage to the Quarter-Finals of the U*BET FA Trophy by comfortably defeating First Division's side, St. Andrew's 4-0.

On the other hand, Tarxien Rainbows struggled to find consistency this season and they failed to make it to the Championship Pool phase. They are in the ninth place with sixteen points. However, last weekend they defeated Rabat Ajax with a comfortable score of 6-2, to register their biggest win of the season.

Tarxien Rainbows were eliminated from the U*BET FA Trophy last Tuesday. Despite giving a good performance, they were beaten by Qormi in the penalty shoot-out, after the score in the extra time was still goal-less.

The Stripes have all their players available for selection, while Tarxien Rainbows will have to do without the services of Carlo Mamo who is suspended.

In the first round match, Joseph Zerafa's first-half goal handed Birkirkara a narrow 1-0 victory.

The match is going to be played at the Hibernians Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 20:00. Transport will leave from Valley Road at 19:00.

Come on the Stripes!
