A brace by Clint Zammit and another goal by Darren Buttigieg, kept alive Birkirkara Under-17's hopes of maintaining their top division status, in the APS Under-17's Section A by beating bottom placed, Pembroke Athleta FC.

The Stripes dominated from start to finish, to register the double over Pembroke which was also their second win of the league, and they are now on the eight-point mark.

The First Half

Birkirkara started out on the right foot, as they showed clear signs that the boys in Stripes were going to dominate the game.

In the opening stages of the game Birkirkara were already threatening as they twice managed to release a player to go face-to-face with the goalkeeper, but the assistant referee raised his flag to signal offside.

The opening goal came after a good run into the box by Clint Zammit. Birkirkara's number 10 managed to hit hard after beating two players. The goal was allowed after some controversy, as the referee did not signal to the halfway line immediately, but was called over by the assistant referee, and the goal was validated.

Towards the end of the first half, the Stripes managed to add another goal. A free-kick taken well by Michael Zammit was met by Darren Buttigeg, who was positioned ideally inside the box, to send the ball into the net.

The Second Half

The second half was once again dominated by Birkirkara who had a number of good opportunities.

Clint Zammit managed to put his name on the score sheet for the second time. After receiving a good through-ball, he had a run inside the box, and then buried the ball into the net.

Zammit once again tormented Pembroke's rear guard with another run, but this time he only managed to hit the foot of the post. Moments later, Zachary Cassar had a good effort miraculously turned away by Pembroke's goalkeeper.

The Stripes continued to administer the game until the final whistle, keeping Pembroke silent in the process. Coach Mako Glumac found time to make use of all the five substitutions allowed.
