Stripes all out to mantain title challenge

by Ayrton Galea - 15th March 2014

Birkirkara FC will be seeking to overcome another hurdle in their bid of winning back to back titles when tomorrow afternoon they face third-placed Hibernians FC.

This was an excellent week for the Stripes who not only gave another dominant display to outsmart the challenge of Sliema Wanderers, but they took full advantage of Valletta's slip-up who were held in a 1-1 draw by Mosta to put Birkirkara five points clear at the top of the table.

Three straight victories regained Birkirkara's momentum who rose to the occasion to have a comfortable five-point lead.

Hibernians have been weakened with the departure of foreign-duo Marcelo Dias and Rodolfo Soares, but the Paolites can rely on their promising youngsters who are giving a good account of themselves.

Two consecutive defeats started Hibernians' Championship Pool commitments on the wrong foot but they recovered well in their last match as they defeated Balzan with a 4-1 score. Like Sliema and Mosta, Hibernians are seeking to end in the first three places which will gurantee them a place in the UEFA Europa League.

Birkirkara will once again have Rowen Muscat ruled out due to injury, while on the other hand, Hibernians will have Ryan Camilleri suspended.

In the first round Hibernians inflicted Birkirkara's first defeat in the league, but the Stripes had their revenge in the second round by emerging as winners with a 2-1 score.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 16:00. Transport is available from the Infetti Training Centre and will leave at 14:30.

Come on the Stripes!
