by Ayrton Galea - 5th July 2014

Birkirkara's Head Coach, Mr. Paul Zammit, in the after-match Press Conference, showed his satisfaction for the effort shown by his players in the 2-1 defeat at the hands of Diosgyor VTK in the away leg of the first round of the UEFA Europa League.

Mr. Zammit, "We saw a mix of everything. It was a very positive first half but then in the second half, we had to change a little bit our approach, after the red card of Bissi".

He addded, "I'm very satisfied with the reaction of the players because coming from a goal down away from home, shows character. We were full of confidence to push forward, but we had to change everything after Bissi's red card.

On the other hand, Diosgyor's Head Coach, Mr. Szivics Tomiszlav said, “What happened in the match was what I expected. We met a motivated team of fighters who have more experience in the UEFA Europa League than we have. As expected, they defended a lot, so I asked the players to play patiently. “

He continued by saying, “After the first goal I thought it was all right, and waited for the second goal. After the red card in the second half, we ruled the game and managed to score at the end of the match as well. This goal makes a big difference, because we got the win, so the rematch will be quite different, and will we do our best to get more.”

He concluded by saying, “Overall, it was a good match. We played against a good and organised team. Among the Maltese I saw several good football players, many of whom I would accept to have in my own team . Congratulations to my own team, the opponents, and the fans that stood behind us as a real player 12th today!”
