Determined Grech hoping to leave his mark

by Ayrton Galea - 24th August 2014

Twenty-four year old Leighton Grech is determined to leave his mark with Birkirkara FC, since returning to our Club after spending the last two seasons on loan with Qormi. Grech had a brilliant start with our Club and during yesterday's 4-0 victory over Zebbug Rangers FC, Leighton was voted as the BOV Player of the Match. We talked with the speedy winger following his superb performance.

Leighton was introduced as a substitute in the first match against Pieta Hotspurs, where he served Ellinton Morais with a perfect cross for the second goal. He was given the green light to start yesterday's match and was named the BOV Player of the Match, possibly thanks to his opening goal and setting up the second goal.

Leighton told us, “It is very important to win matches like these, when you start as favourite. We dominated for the whole ninety minutes thanks to a very good performance by all the players.”

Leighton went on by saying, “I am really happy to have won the Coach's trust for this match to start from the beginning. I am very happy with my performance, but I'm also very happy for the excellent performance of all the team.”

Despite being just in the second week of the BOV Premier League, Leighton believes that Birkirkara are the main contenders of the BOV Premier League. “From the performances that we're giving, we're once again the main contenders. It is obvious that we're going to challenge for every possible honour. On a personal note, I have reached my first personal goal by forming part of Birkirkara FC and now I hope and wish for more fine performances to help this team.”

Leighton said “I conclude this interview by leaving a message to our supporters. Keep supporting us, even when we are going through bad moments. Your support is very important to us. We will work hard to repay your support at the end of the league!”
