Stripes in a must-win situation

by Ayrton Galea - 29th November 2014

Under-pressure Birkirkara FC will be in a must-win situation as they seek to bring to an end their negative streak, when they take on bottom-placed, Zebbug Rangers FC tomorrow afternoon.

It has been a difficult period for the Stripes who are struggling to match their pre-season expectations of being among the main-challengers for the title, as their inconsistency has marred their early progress in the BOV Premier League.

By losing their last match 4-3 against Pieta Hotsurs, the Stripes fell for the fifth defeat and the second consecutive one. A defeat which meant that the Stripes fell thirteen points behind leaders Hibernians FC and two points behind Valletta FC who climbed in the second place after their 5-0 victory over Mosta.

On the other hand, Zebbug Rangers are still searching for the first victory in the BOV Premier League as the newly-promoted side is anchored at the bottom of the table with just five points thanks to five draws. The Rangers recovered from the 2-0 victory against Valletta FC with a positive 1-1 draw against Balzan FC.

In the first-round's match, Birkirkara emerged as winners with a comfortable 4-0 score thanks to goals by Leighton Grech, Ellinton Morais, Eliandro Gonzaga and Rafael Ledesma.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 16:00.

Come on the Stripes!
