Edmond Agius keeps believing

by Ayrton Galea - 6th December 2014

As the referee blew his last whistle in the last match against Zebbug, Edmond Agius sported a big smile, as he had netted his first goal with our Club, and we decided to speak with him before the match against Naxxar Lions.

It has been five months since the former Valletta FC player joined our Club, and following improved performances throughout the last weeks, he crowned his displays by netting his first goal, and we asked for him for his reaction. “I am very happy for scoring the first goal with this Club. Yet, I am even happier and prouder that we have returned to winning ways with a fine win.”

Edmond, went on by saying, “I am very happy with Birkirkara, everyone involved helped me to settle down. I don't want to exclude anyone but thanks to the committee, technical staff, players and supporters it wasn't even difficult to settle down. I'm settled down and I'm feeling happy here.”

Edmond's inclusion has certainly lifted the Stripes' performance but he believes that he can contribute more to his team. “I also believe that my best is yet to come. I'm doing all my best in every match with every possible effort involved. I believe that I'm settling down in each game and that helps me to produce the best level of my football.”

There has been a lot of doubt cast on Birkirkara's true potential but the second-half performance against Zebbug which awarded them with a 3-1 victory, and the very comfortable 7-1 win against Hamrun in the Malta FA Trophy lifted the Stripes' spirit and Edmond believes that they are back on the right track. “I hope and I believe so that we're back to winning ways, yet, every match has its story. The league is a very long journey which is made up of a lot of episodes and I believe that we will go for every match and giving our best on the field.”

The Stripes will be going to next Sunday's match with some momentum following a positive week but Edmond is expecting a difficult match. “It's a well-known fact that this BOV Premier League's campaign is a very balanced one. Every game has its story and every team can grab the points. It is a match like all the rest, which saw us preparing for it in the best way. We had a very good week of preparations thanks to the help of the Coach. We will go there believing that we will produce our best.”

The gap between Hibernians and Birkirkara might look insurmountable to some, but not to Edmond who said, “Is the league a reachable target? Why not? Since there is the possibility we will continue on believing.”

The league is not the only cup that Birkirkara will be seeking to win this season, as they will be targeting the Malta FA Trophy. Edmond said “Every cup that exists and is possible to be won is our target.”

Finally, Edmond concluded this interview by leaving a message to the supporters. “I would like to thank you for staying behind us in these difficult times. Keep on believing in us, we want your support and we appreciate you a lot. Thank you!”
