Debutants Dylan and Beppe's thoughts

by Ayrton Galea - 5th January 2015

The match against Mosta saw the debut of two Under-19's Team players, Dylan Aquilina who saw his 'childhood dream of wearing the Birkirkara Senior Team shirt' become reality, and Beppe Jaccarini, who felt it was 'very satisfactory to make the Premier League Debut with a Club like Birkirkara'.

Dylan Aquilina and Beppe Jaccarini are two of the key-players that currently form part of the Under-19's Team, and both were part of the squad last season when the Stripes clinched the Youths League Section A title for the first time.

Both of these players were given the nod for the debut during Sunday's match, and they were included as substitutes in the last ten minutes.

A delighted Dylan Aquilina told us, “For me, this debut means a lot, like it does for every child that has his dream of wearing the Senior Team's shirt. I was very excited but thanks to the help of my team-mates and the technical staff, I went on very confident. This debut helps me to look more positively at my career, and notice where I have to improve my level and to be better than ever.”

Beppe said “I felt very excited and very satisfied that my Premier League debut had to come with a big club like Birkirkara FC. It is the reward for all the hard work. I am very glad that Head Coach Paul Zammit, not only believed in me on Sunday, but also for the first months. Although I have arrived at this stage, I hope that is only the beginning of a long journey playing in Malta's top division.”

Aquilina, who is the Under-19's team captain, said “We had a very good game. We dominated from match from the starts, and we didn't give any space to our opponents to be dangerous. As soon as they seemed to get back in the match, we were intelligent enough to increase the team's intensity and worked harder to produce more goals.”

Jaccarini's thoughts on the match were very similar. “I think that we were superior to Mosta for long stretches and I think that we obeyed the Coach's instructions given to us before the match and during the half-time. We kept the ball well and we didn't give them the chance to get back in the match.”

Finally, we talked with the duo about their targets for the future. Dylan told us, “My targets for the future is to keep my feet on the ground, while working hard to show my potential in the Under-19's League, so if God willing, I will have any another opportunity with the Senior Team, I will be fully prepared.”

Beppe concluded his comments by saying, “My targets for the future are to continue being called-up with the eighteen-man squad, so if an opportunity comes, I'll be prepared to give a good match, and help Birkirkara adding to their silverware. My second wish and target is to be re-called with the National Under-21's squad to continue improving my level.”
