Birkirkara FC Under-15's climbed to the top of the APS Under-15's League Section A on Saturday afternoon, when a goal in each half by Ayrton Attard gave them a 2-0 victory over Hamrun Spartans FC.

It was a balanced match that for long stretches saw both teams cancelling each other out. However, the Stripes enjoyed more possession and inspired by a brace of Ayrton Attard, they emerged victorious and they are now the sole-leaders in the league.

The First Half

Hamrun went close to surging ahead after just three minutes, when a fast break-away was concluded with a fine effort hitting the crossbar.

Birkirkara started to settle down, and they surged ahead on the twenty-first minute. Ayrton Attard received the ball on the left flank, dribbled past two Hamrun defenders and unleashed a perfect shot into the top left hand corner of the post giving the Hamrun keeper no chance.

The game continued with lots of midfield play with both sides creating a few other goal-scoring opportunities before the first half ended with Birkirkara in the lead.

The Second Half

In the second half, Hamrun threw everything up front, but it was Birkirkara who scored again on the 55', in one of their counterattacks. A long through-ball behind the Hamrun defence was met by Ayrton Attard who lobbed perfectly over the keeper to make the score 2-0.

Hamrun tried to react and put some pressure. They hit the post on the sixty-nine minute. Late in the match, it was Birkirkara who hit the post following a great shot by Zac Grech.

The full time whistle saw Birkirkara deservedly take the three points, and clinching the first place in the league.
