Birkirkara FC Under-17's Team had to settle for just one point on Sunday afternoon, when despite enjoying an edge for most of the time, they failed to break-down Pembroke's defence and the match ended in a goal-less draw.

With this draw, the Stripes remained in the sixth place, one point over Zebbug Rangers and two under Mqabba as they failed to make the best out of the draw between these two teams last week.

The First Half

The Stripes had their first scoring opportunity after twelve minutes when Jacob Magri's drive from around twenty metres scratched past Pembroke's upright post. Eighth minutes later, Neil Micallef also tried his luck with a shot from distance, but his effort ended wide.

Gianluca Zammit had an excellent chance to open the score after a fine cross from Fabien Lufi on the twenty-eighth minute, but his header was easily neutralised by Pembroke's custodian. Zammit was in action once again eighth minutes later when his low shot was parried by the goalkeeper.

The end of the first half found the Stripes heading to their dressing room with nothing to show for their superiority.

The Second Half

The difference between the two sides was narrowed in the second half as Pembroke were being more aggressive and were showing better ideas. On the hour mark, they were denied from surging ahead when a direct free-kick brushed past the up-right.

The Stripes replied eighth minutes later when a fierce strike by Neil Micallef, but the Pembroke goalkeeper neutralised his effort in two attempts. Five minutes later, Ryan Gauci almost profited from lack of communication between a defender and the goalkeeper, but he was anticipated before he could pull the trigger.

Pembroke went close to scoring a dramatic goal two minutes from time, but Nigel Borg saved the day for the Stripes when he cleared the ball off the goal-line.

BIRKIRKARA: Fabien Aquilina, Fabien Lufi, Nigel Bugeja, Jordan Sciberras, Max Borg, Roberto Curmi, Liam Reno Gatt, Jacob Magri, Gianluca Zammit, Nigel Borg, Neil Micallef.
