Stripes take on Balzan in direct clash for the second place

Birkirkara FC will be involved in another difficult match on Monday evening when in a direct clash for the second place of the BOV Premier League, they will face Balzan FC.
It will be another tough fixture for the Stripes as Balzan have registered a perfect start to the BOV Premier League by being the only team unbeaten in the first eighth matches, but their run was halted by Floriana, when in the last match they defeated them 2-0. This loss cost Balzan the top-spot of the league.
The Stripes were left blaming their luck in the last match when following a very superior second-half, they had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Hibernians in a direct clash despite having two controversial penalty-shouts turned down.
Following a shaky start, one could say that the Stripes have shown improvement and they are unbeaten in the last five matches thanks to three victories and two draws. They are still enjoying the best attack on the island with twenty-two goals in nine matches.
Today's match will see the team with best attack test the team with the best defence. The Stripes have scored the most goals, but Balzan have conceded the least goals, just five goals in nine matches, four less than the Stripes.
Birkirkara are sharing the third place with Hibernians with eighteen points, two under Balzan and three under Valletta. Therefore, a win for the Stripes would not only seeing them climbing over Balzan but temporarily putting them on top of the table before the Citizens face Mosta tomorrow afternoon.
While the Stripes have no players suspended, Balzan will have to do without the services of Elkin Serrano Valero and Edison Bilboa Zarate. Valero was sent off for a double booking in the last match against Floriana, while Zarate picked his fourth yellow.
The match will be played at the Victor Tedesco Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 18:00.
