Under-17's Team register first victory

Birkirkara FC Under-17's Team registered their first victory in the APS Bank Under-17's League Section A when they defeated San Gwann FC with a comfortable 3-1 score thanks to goals by Jordan Sciberras, Gianluca Zammit and Ayrton Attard.

Following two defeats in their opening two matches, the team led by Mr. Thane Micallef and assisted by Mr. Malachy Portelli, produced a very satisfactory performance to register their first victory of the season over San Gwann.

The First Half

The Stripes started the match on the offensive but conceded a goal after ten minutes when Ian Caruana's placed shot beat the helpless Emmanuel Galea. Birkirkara upped the tempo and two shots by Neil Micallef were neutralised by Owen Cassar.

Birkirkara managed to equalise on the 25th minute when Kyle Mifsud's well delivered corner kick was concluded by Jordan Sciberras. The stripes were unlucky not to forge ahead in the 31st minute when Ayrton Attard's shot ended inches wide with the San Gwann custodian beaten.

The Second Half

Birkirkara piled more pressure in the second half and went close to take the lead when Gianluca Zammit's lob was cleared by a San Gwann defender, the ball fell into Ayrton Attard whose chip from outside the penalty area went over the bar.

In the 48th minute the Stripes managed to reap dividends from their pressure when an intelligent through pass was well met by Gianluca Zammit who slotted the ball past Cassar. Birkirkara kept dictating play and went close to increase the lead through Isaac Ciranna who went through on goal but his dribble was neutralised by the San Gwann goalkeeper.

Birkirkara added a third goal on the sixty-ninth minute when Ayrton Attard's left foot freekick found the back of the net. The San Gwann goalkeeper performed heroics on the same player when he managed to stop a point blank shot.

The San Gwann goalkeeper performed another excellent save on the seventy-fifth minute when he managed to neutralise Ayrton Attard's penalty kick. The stripes kept control of the match with Romario Camileri, Briam Mifsud, Alessio Azzopardi and Miguel Amato controlling the San Gwann offensive players and keeping them at bay.
