Birkirkara FC Girls Under-16's Team returned to winning ways on Sunday morning when thanks to a very satisfactory display, they defeated Mosta with a 2-0 score thanks to a goal each by Mariah Sciberras and Sarah Urpani.

The Stripes were faced with another difficult test in form of Mosta FC who were still unbeaten after the first five matches. However, the Stripes, under the guidance of Coach Ms. Kelly Pace and assisted by Mr. Malcolm Lee Attard, showed great character and produced a terrific performance to bring to an end their opponents unbeaten run and return to winning ways.

Following a goal-less balanced first-half, the Stripes surged ahead after two minutes in the second half. It was a gem of a goal by Captain Mariah Sciberras who scored from a direct long-distance free-kick and put the Stripes ahead.

The Stripes, boosted by the opening goal, doubled their lead on the thirty-third minute. Samantha Zarb, who enjoyed a wonderful performance, was put through in an ideal position inside the box but the latter showed a great gesture of serving Sarah Urpani who kept calm and slotted home from close-range.

Zarb was unlucky not to put her name on the scoring-sheet for her performance when she showed great skills to avoid her marker but her fierce shot was denied by the up-right.

Goalkeeper Britney Deobono made her debut as two minutes from time she replaced Anthea Enriquez who also had a fine performance. The score remained unchanged and Birkirkara returned to winning ways.

BIRKIRKARA: Anthea Enriquez (48' Britney Debono), Nicole Zammit (40' Giulia Micallef), Maria Fenech, Samantha Zarb (45' Sarah Cassar), Mariah Sciberras, Sarah Urpani, Michela Felice.

Scorers: 27' Mariah Sciberras, 33' Sarah Urpani.
