Under pressure Stripes seek to return to winning ways

Birkirkara FC will be seeking to put all their troubles behind them and return to winning ways in the BOV Premier League, when on Sunday afternoon, they will face the tricky test in form of Pembroke Athleta FC.

Following a shocking 4-0 defeat against Valletta last Saturday, on Wednesday Birkirkara, the holders of the FA Trophy, found no difficulty to advance to the fourth round after beating Second Division side Kirkop United with a 6-0 score.

Last Thursday, the Club announced that it had parted ways with Head Coach Mr. Giovanni Tedesco. Assistant Coach Mr. Josef Mansueto will be guiding the Senior team for the time being.

On the other hand, Pembroke Athleta are considered as one of the most surprising packages in this year's Premier League. They are in the eighth place with seventeen points, sharing their spot with Sliema Wanderers.

They had their three-match unbeaten run brought to an end last weekend when they were defeated by Sliema Wanderers 2-0. They were coming from a surprising 2-0 victory over Valletta, a goal-less draw against Qormi and a 4-0 victory against bottom placed St. Andrew's before they were defeated by the Wanderers in their last match.

While for Pembroke, a victory will put them in safer waters, the Stripes will be all out to return to winning ways. They are sharing the third spot with Balzan and Floriana, with twenty-sixth points each, five under the joint leaders Hibernians and Valletta.

In the first-round match, a brace by Vito Plut and a goal each by Mauricio Mazzetti and Zach Muscat gave the Stripes a 4-1 victory.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 14:00.

Come on the Stripes!
