'We will give our 100% to achieve our goal' - Gareth Sciberras

by Ayrton Galea - 4th July 2016

Captain Gareth Sciberras believes that the team is one hundred per cent ready for tomorrow's fight and sure that the team will give its utmost to achieve its goal of advancing to the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League.

The captain started by saying, “After the first result, away, we are going to this match determined to pass this first qualification round, I think we are well prepared, we now have a good idea of our opponents. I'm sure the players are 100% ready for this fight tomorrow and we will give 100% to achieve our goal.”

Sciberras has been with a number of different squads and his thoughts are shown in his words by saying, “I have to say, I was quite fortunate that in my time with Birkirkara, we had always very good atmosphere in our squad. I think at present it is at its best, the atmosphere between the players is fantastic, there is a huge team-spirit, and we're all working hard to achieve first personal success as obviously everyone wants to improve their career but also for the club."

He added, “I think it is unfair to compare this squad to other squads because we are still in the early stages. However the team is still developing and I'm very positive and faithful in this team accompanied by its technical staff who guide us.”

As to everyone's knowledge playing in the late afternoon is not ideal due to Malta's hot weather, however our captain isn't estimating this as a key factor, “Obviously the time of the game is not suitable for a football match, but I always say the conditions, if its rain, windy or sunny, are for both teams and I don't think it will be determined factor for tomorrow.”

Newly appointed team manager, Matthew Psaila, gave his first comments since joining our Club. Following a positive experience with the team in Bosnia he said, “You can't compare the level of my previous clubs with the level of Birkirkara. Birkirkara is in a level of its own. It is a very good and a very professional club.

“The team spirit is very good, I've seen all players acting as one and there is no divisions between the players. I think that the atmosphere on and off the pitch is the best I've seen.”
