Stripes bid to write history

Birkirkara FC will be attempting to write a new page in Maltese football's history by qualifying to the third qualification round of the UEFA Europa League, when this evening, they take on Heart of Midlothian FC.

A goal-less draw last week at the Hibernians Stadium lifted the Stripes' spirits ahead of today's match. The disciplined tactical performance by the Stripes frustrated Hearts who could not break-through, and this left the second-leg tie wide open.

In a press-conference held at the Tynecastle Stadium yesterday evening before the last training sessions, Coach Drazen Besek said “The first-leg in Malta is over, and the result was great for us. All pressure is now on our opponents. Hearts are a good team with young players and a young coach but all pressure is on them.”

“We are confident. We know what we can do and what we want to achieve. We expect big pressure from Hearts but we don't come here to defend and wait to concede a goal. We come here to fight for the result. We come here to show our pride and to make something good for our supporters, who will be travelling here and those who will be supporting us from Malta.”

The Croatian Coach will have to wait for a last-minute fitness test to see the condition of defender Predrag Jovic.

The match will be played at the Tynecastle Stadium and will kick off at 21:00 (CET). The match will be aired on a big-screen at the Clubhouse in Birkirkara.

Come on the Stripes!
