The return of the BOV Premier League

by Ayrton Galea - 19th August 2016

Birkirkara FC will be kicking off the BOV Premier League 2016-2017 campaign this evening, when they will take on St. Andrew's FC.

This year's BOV Premier League will once again feature twelve teams and the league will be played on three rounds. However, as from this year, the points will be not halved after the second round.

It was a very busy summer for the Stripes who saw them confirming their Coach Drazen Besek and his technical staff, while being one of the most active teams during the Summer Transfer Market by signing eighth new players. Besides their new signings, they renewed the contract of number of key players from last season, while Desira Buttigieg was brought back to their ranks after spending last season on loan.

In the build-up to the Premier League campaign, the Stripes enjoyed a memorable European journey. They wrote history by becoming the first Maltese club to reach the third round of UEFA European competitions, by eliminating Heart of Midlothian FC in the second round.

On the other hand, St. Andrew's, who also confirmed their coach Jose Borg for the upcoming season, have enjoyed a successful campaign in the Summer Transfer Market. They renewed a number of contracts, particularly of their key-players of last season, but also brought new additions to the squad. Their latest signing is Godwin Mckay, who is a former Birkirkara FC player.

During the last season, the two teams met three times with all three matches being comfortably won by the Stripes. Following an 4-0 victory in the first round, the Stripes registered identical 3-1 victories in the second and third round.

The match will be played at the Hibernians Stadium and it will kick off at 18:30.

Come on the Stripes!
