Stripes to face tough Greens test

by Ayrton Galea - 4th November 2016

This evening Birkirkara FC will be seeking to return to winning ways, and end the first round of the BOV Premier League on a positive note, when they face Floriana FC.

Satisfactory victories against Balzan and Gzira United respectively certainly lifted Birkirkara's spirits, but a very controversial penalty last Sunday against Hibernians cancelled all their efforts as the latter emerged as winners with a narrow 1-0 victory.

The undeserved defeat condemned the Stripes to lose their second place to Hibernians, while they drifted another point from table leaders Balzan, who were held in a 2-2 draw against Tarxien Rainbows last Friday.

On the other hand, Floriana are gaining momentum following a goal-less draw against Hibernians, and back-to-back wins against Mosta and Gzira United with an identical 1-0 score. This positive run of the Greens enabled them to climb to the fifth place with just two points under Birkirkara and one under Valletta.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and will kick off at 20:00.

Come on the Stripes!
