Stripes take on Rainbows in a must-win match

by Ayrton Galea - 4th March 2017

Birkirkara FC will be all-out to return to winning ways in the BOV Premier League, when this afternoon, they will be involved in a must-win fixture against Tarxien Rainbows FC.

The Stripes must bounce back and get back winning ways to keep their slim hopes of finishing in the top-four positions of the league. However, their task is anything than easy, as they continued to struggle with disappointing results in their last two matches.

Back-to-back victories against Hibernians and Gzira United respectively gave the impression that the Stripes are peaking to their best at the right time, but a defeat to Floriana and a draw with St. Andrew's in the last match punctured heavily their progress.

Birkirkara are fifth with thirty-eighth points, four points under Floriana and six points under Valletta. They will be all-out to return to winning ways to possibly get back in contention of finishing in the top-four places.

On the other hand, the Rainbows have been one of the most consistent sides in the league following appointing Jesmond Zerafa as their coach. They had an excellent eight-match unbeaten run, but they conceded two defeats against Hibernians and Gzira United respectively in their last two matches.

Tarxien Rainbows are also one of the semi-finalists of the FA Trophy, after they had eliminated league leaders Balzan FC with a 2-1 score, in the extra-time period after a 1-1 draw till the ninety minutes.

Both Coaches, Nikola Jaros and Jesmond Zerafa, will be unable to field their best formation. Ryan Scicluna is suspended for the Stripes after he was sent off in the last match, while Alex Da Paixao Alves is suspended for the Rainbows after collecting his fourth yellow card.

Birkirkara has won both encounters against the Rainbows so far. They registered a comfortable 4-0 victory in the first-round while they emerged as winners with a 3-1 score in the second-round.

The match will be played at the Hibernians Stadium and it will kick off at 16:00. Transport from Valley Road is available and it will leave at 15:15.

Come on the Stripes!
