Eight players called-up with the Women's National Team

by Ayrton Galea - 1st April 2017

Eight Birkirkara FC players have been called up to the Women's National Team, led by Mr. Mark Gatt, for the FIFA Women's World Cup Mini-Tournament, being held in Albania between the 6 and 11 April.

Alishia Sultana, Ann-Marie Said, Gabriella Zahra, Janice Xuereb (GK), Kelly Agius Pace, Kim Parnis, Raina Giusti and Stephania Farrugia are the Birkirkara players called-up. Giusti regains her place in the squad after she was not selected for the Aphrodite Cup.

Malta will start their commitments with the match against Greece on Thursday, 6 April at 14:00, while they take Albania two days later. The third and final match will be against Kosovo on Tuesday, 11 April.

In their previous World Cup qualifying campaign, in 2013, the Malta Women's Team exceeded expectations by advancing to the second qualifying phase after claiming top spot in their group which also comprised Albania, Latvia and Luxembourg.

As part of their preparations for the World Cup mini-tournament, the Maltese girls took part in the Aphrodite Cup, in Cyprus, last month. Malta finished fourth after losing a classification play-off against Lithuania on penalties but obtained their first ever win over Cyprus in the group stage.

We would like to congratulate our players while we would like to wish the National Team all the best of luck.
