Defending Champions Birkirkara FC Women's Team made sure of facing title-challengers Hibernians in their next match with a two-point advantage when on Wednesday evening, they scored three goals in the second-half to defeat Mgarr United FC with a comfortable 3-0 score.

With Hibernians trashing neighbours Tarxien Rainbows FC with a commanding 9-0 score to take sole-leadership for at least twenty-four hours, all pressure were on the Stripes to overcome the stern challenge over Mgarr United, who are currently having a satisfactory season.

Buoyant by their last-gasp goal in their last match, the Stripes didn't let down to the expectations. Following a goal-less first half, the Stripes stepped-up their match and scored three times to register their fifth consecutive victory and remain unbeaten in this league campaign.

Following a goal-less first half, the match came into live in the second half, particularly after the inclusion of debutant Joselene Gafa for the Stripes. The technical forward proved to be a game-changer thanks to her vision of the match.

It was Gafa who set-up the Stripes to their first scoring opportunity in the second half close to the hour-mark with a precise pass towards rapid-winger Raina Giusti, but the latter saw her powerful shot scratching past the post, with goalkeeper Ebejer beaten.

The Stripes broke the dead-lock on the seventieth minute. It was play-maker Tracy Teuma who produced a wonderful solo-action that saw her dribbling past several players before slotting a low-shot past the Mgarr goalkeeper.

Birkirkara were now in command and four minutes from time, they doubled to score to put their minds at rest. Gafa supplied an excellent through-ball towards Gabriella Zahra and the latter hit home with a close-range effort, after Ebejer failed to hold the ball.

The Stripes added further gloss on their victory by scoring their third goal deep into stoppage time. League's top-scorer Raina Giusti delivered a reminder of her technical abilities when she dashed inside the box and hit past goalkeeper Ebejer for her nineteenth goal in this league campaign.
